About Me

Sheetal Prasad is a multidisciplinary artist residing in Ontario, Canada. She received her Honours BFA in Studio Art and a Minor in History from McMaster University in 2018, and her MFA in Interdisciplinary Masters in Art, Media, and Design at the OCAD University in 2020.

Born in Canada to immigrant parents from Fiji, Sheetal's work deals with cultural themes that aim to educate and/or relate to her audiences. Racism/stereotypes, history, and heritage are her ongoing interests, especially drawing from her experiences of being an Indo-Fijian (Fijians whose origins are from India) living in western countries.

Sheetal works with various mediums such as painting, bookmaking, printmaking, digital, sculpture, multimedia, performance, and installation to evoke themes of ignorance, erasures, and haunting. Her research is delved into the minority lens of Canadian history utilizing postcolonial theory and haunting. Currently, she is pursuing her Ph.D. in Education at York University where she will delve into the minority perspectives of Canadian history textbooks and technology as an educational tool.
